Fire Island Wind Energy Project

A cost-effective, responsible source of electric power

Renewable Enegy

The Fire Island wind energy project is the most mature commercial renewable power project in the state.  If funded, flat-priced, clean and renewable power could flow to the Railbelt grid by 2009.

Wind Energy Benefits

  • Cost competitive with other power generation sources, including coal and natural gas
  • Wind “fuel” is free and the cost to produce wind power is stable
  • Crates hundreds of construction jobs, and the site would require a crew of skilled workers to operate.
  • Fire Island is ideal for an ongoing training facility to help bring wind power online in communities throughout Alaska

Take Action!

Let Governor Palin know that you appreciate her support for renewable energy projects like Fire Island.
