The Alaska Conservation Alliance houses Alaska's only environmental lobby. Our Legislative staff in Juneau works to influence state policy and hold Legislators and the Administration accountable for their actions. ACA also works with other member organizations to persuade local elected officials to pursue positive, pro-conservation measures.
ACA employs a Legislative Manager and a Professional Lobbyist in Juneau. Our legislative staff works closely with advocates from the Southeast Alaska Conservation Council, Northern Alaska Environmental Center, and Alaska Center for the Environment through our legislative intern program.
The conservation community's priorities for this session will focus around proactive issues like preventing contamination in salmon habitat and promoting renewable energy. As always we will work defensively to safeguard critical habitat and prevent the disposal of key public lands.
ACA also hosts an annual legislative Fly-In. Every year, ACA gathers dozens of Alaskans to learn about and discuss current conservation issues. Fly-In advocates spend a day in the Capitol at the end of the training to bring their message to legislators. If you are interested in learning more about this year’s Fly-In, contact Britt@akvoice.org.
The 24th Legislature, 2nd Session, ran from January 9th to May 9th, 2006.
